Entry requirements
Applications are now open for intakes starting from October 2025 onwards.
You must demonstrate a minimum level of English proficiency to study on our Pathway to English Language and Academic Skills course.
We can accept a range of English language tests, including:
- IELTS UKVI
- Pearson UKVI
- TOEFL IBT, IELTS and Pearson PTE non-SELT may be considered.
We offer some flexibility to students who have not have an English language qualification. Please contact the admissions team for further guidance englishlanguage@manchester.ac.uk
All applicants are expected to complete a short 10-minute online placement test.

Intermediate
The minimum entry requirements for the intermediate level are outlined below:
Intermediate - IELTS 4.5 - 5.0, B1 or equivalent.

Upper-intermediate
The minimum entry requirements for the upper-intermediate level are outlined below:
IELTS 5.5 - 6.0, high B1/B2 or equivalent.

IELTS 6.5, high B2/C1 or equivalent
