About
The University Centre for Academic English provides a wide range of courses and services to the whole of The University of Manchester.
The University Centre for Academic English is based in the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures and located in the Samuel Alexander Building.
We are mixed team of almost 35 teaching and professional services staff who all work to ensure the running, teaching and learning and student experience of students in the Centre.
We offer a range of general and academic English courses throughout throughout the year and have approximately 2,000 students studying our full-time academic English language courses each year.
Our English Language courses are accredited by The British Council and our Pre-sessional courses are also accredited by British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes (BALEAP).
According to the EL Gazette University Language Centre rankings from 2019-2025, we are proud to be recognised as the joint #1 University Language Centre in the UK for the last six years.
We are immensely proud of this fabulous achievement – an achievement which reflects everyone’s’ ambition, hard work and dedication.
